Our Vessels
Welcome aboard our fleet of state-of-the-art vessels that are all designed for extra safety and stability when navigating the waters of the region.
Mayumi
Named after owner Mike’s eldest daughter, Mayumi 2.0 was built in locally and delivered to North Vancouver Island. Designed with a unique and highly stable hull, the ABD vessel allows for greater loads and can navigate tougher seas (if needed).
We meet all Transport Canada Specifications and Regulations for safety and stability and our operators are licensed by Transport Canada. We are certified for 12 passengers and two guides. A heated cabin and marine head (washroom) makes for a comfortable ride, whatever the weather.
There are very few other boats on the market that can match ABE’s design and safety. Your safety is our priority and North River’s hull design provides unequalled stability, either while under power or at rest and the boat’s huge reverse chines allow guests to move freely about the deck to watch wildlife.
Tisamgid
Added to the fleet in 2021, and named after Mike’s son, Tisamgid was also built by North River Boats.
Inflatables
Strong and stable, our motorized inflatable tenders allow us to go where our larger covered vessels can’t, so we can take you closer to the incredible wildlife.
Skiffs
Our motorized flat bottom aluminum skiffs also allow us to go where our larger covered vessels can’t, especially into shallow areas and rivers.
That’s a Wrap ~ 2025 Lodge Season
Today we set out on our final journey of our inaugural season; a day filled with reflection, gratitude, and quiet joy. Each trip is more than a tour; it is a chance to witness the living heartbeat of our homelands; whales breaking the surface, grizzlies at the river, eagles soaring above the rainforest. To share these moments is a gift, and to end the season feels both bittersweet and humbling.
This year carried a new depth through our partnership with Sointula Lodge; together we created an experience where guests could not only see our territory but feel it. Out on the water, awe and wonder; back at the lodge, comfort and warmth. The rooms offered rest, the meals became memories, and the stories shared around the table carried the spirit of connection. The feedback we received was heartfelt, with guests telling us they felt seen, welcomed, and cared for; to us, that is the greatest measure of success.
We will carry with us the moments of laughter, the tears of joy, the quiet silences in the presence of wildlife, and the deep pride of sharing who we are as Musg̱a̱makw Dzawada̱`enux̱w and Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw people.
To our guests, our partners, and our crew; gilakas’la, thank you. You are now part of our story, and it is your support that allows us to continue walking with respect and responsibility for this land and these waters. This is Reconciliation in motion.
