Bears, whales and an opportunity to hear stories - what more could you want! A brilliant day with this crew. Julie collected us from our hotel and then we went on a full day boat ride to see grizzly bears with two knowledgeable Indigenous guides who educated us about both wildlife and the worlds of the First Nation peoples. We saw bears, sea otters, humpback whales, eagles, dolphins and right at the end orcas! A marvellous day and even the rain couldn’t dampen our spirits. Don’t miss out on this magic!

Just book it Fantastic trip.
Led by AJ and Clarissa.
Clarissa gave us a wonderful insight into the indigenous peoples of the area and her particular struggles with the money making corporations.
We saw black bears feeding on the sea shore then travelled on to one of the indigenous sites to see the grizzlies.
A long wait crouched and sitting on a log but there was so much going on: a heron in a nearby tree, a kingfisher flashing in and out of the bank, lots of crows and of course salmon fighting their way upstream.
We were rewarded with not just one but two grizzlies coming downstream, catching salmon and eating them less than 50 feet away. Must have spent an hour just watching and capturing on camera. Sights we will never forget and well beyond expectation.
Sadly we coukdn't stay the night and made our way back to Port McNeil.
AJ and Clarissa made this trip so special with their knowledge and insight. Cannot recommend this company highly enough or give them enough stars.
If you want to see grizzlies doing what grizzlies do then look no further. Good food, good knowledgable local guides. Just book it.

Fantastic! We had an amazing day with our Captain Teddy and guide Lateisha! We did the day long grizzly bear tour and were out on the water for about 9 hours. The stories, wildlife interpretation and scenery were incredible. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. We saw 6 grizzlies, ~30 humpback & 1 minke whale, sea lions, sea otters, seals! They were respectful of the wildlife, very accommodating to the guests, and truly lovely people to guide us for the day! The food was good. Couldn't have asked for a better day. Highly recommend!

Truly awesome trip We are a Dutch couple, doing a tour of South Western Canada, and part of this was visiting Vancouver Island. The last thing we did before returning to the mainland of Canada was the grizzly bear spotting with Sea Wolf Adventures.
This is organized by so-called First Nation people of Canada (in Holland we would call them Indians). The logistics of the trip were very well organized (including a continental breakfast and a simple, but very tasty lunch).
It took a boat ride of about an hour and a half from Port McNeil to the grizzly bear area, during which we saw many humpback whales and a few killer whales.
To hear the story of the the First Nations people, and how their people have been (mis) treated in the past was fascinating to hear and very, very moving. It added a big additional aspect to this already very spectacular trip.
After having heard this story, we began the grizzly spotting part of the trip. We walked through a dense rain forest for about 20 minutes (following our guide, a First Nations guy who always walks bare foot). We already saw grizzly poop and a place where a grizzly had apparently spent the night very recently (so the suspense was building ), until we got to the river. We then waited for close to an hour before the first grizzly arrived. We all hid behind a huge log and saw from up close how the grizzly went about his business (mainly trying to catch salmon, and then eating it). A second grizzly soon followed, and this one approached us to about 5 meters from us: very exciting, and because of the professional organization, it never felt scary.
All in all, this was one of the most exciting things we have ever experienced and I highly, highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting Vancouver Island! Do this excursion, and do it with this organization. You will not be disappointed!!

An amazing day… An amazing day out on the water seeing orcas, bears (black & grizzley‘s), dolphins, eagles, humpbacks but also an incredible landscape in the Knight Inlet.

The team was sharing their interesting know-how on wildlife and the traditions of the First Nations. The boat is modern and the groups are small so that everyone has enough space to watch the wildlife.

The trip was very relaxing, no rush at all, I believe we even stayed out longer as we were lucky to encounter a pot of orca‘s staying around the boat, playing and singing - just beautiful.

We can definitely recommend doing the tour! Worth every penny.

Bucket list day! We had the most amazing day out with Seawolf adventures. It was an absolute bucket list day for both of us. Alan was extremely knowledgeable and sincere in his sharing of his cultural knowledge and we felt cared for and looked after throughout the day.
We saw grizzlies, whales, dolphins and otters. It was fantastic. I would urge anyone thinking of doing this to just go ahead and do it.

Awesome wildlife experience We had an amazing day with Danielle and Teddy from Sea Wolf Adventures. Pick up from Alert Bay was easy and on time. The boat was full with 10 passengers, but still comfortable, with lots of room for viewing. We headed towards Knights Inlet, and saw a half-dozen grizzlies in the morning, including a mother and 2 cubs. We stopped into a lovely cove on West Cracroft Island for lunch, and then started looking for sea life, and, wow, did we find it! We wound up in the midst of what we later learned were three pods of resident orca all feeding in a big tidal rip, with some pacific white-sided dolphins joining in the fun. They were all around us!!! What a special encounter, which lasted nearly an hour. We saw another pod of orca feeding later in a different area. Throw in a couple Dall's porpoise, some harbour porpoise, a few humpback whales, and steller sea lions, all of which we also saw, and you can appreciate why we were truly awed by our experience. Danielle and Teddy were terrific guides. They shared their First Nations history, knowledge, and identify with justifiable pride, and answered our many questions. We highly recommend this tour if you get the chance!!!

Just do it! My parents and I went for a trip with Sea Wolf Adventures on the 4th of September. The boat was captained by AJ and guided by Latisha and Dallas. All three of them did an exceptional job hosting us and showing us these beautiful waters. AJ was our point man and spared no effort in takin care of us and showing us everything there was to see. Latisha, with her cheerful and infectious smile was always on hand to answer our questions and share information about First Nations culture and history. A superb experience and a must-do!

Totally awesome Grizzly Bears of the wild Tour Thank you to Latisha and a Teddy for a life changing enriched day tour with on 23rd Aug. You went above and beyond and we felt truly spoilt. True food for the mind, body and soul. A day my husband and I will cherish in our hearts always. We not only saw Grizzly bears, Seals, Orcas, Sea Otters and so much wild life, they shared cultural and historical stories in such a understandable and beautiful way and made us feel wonderful. A must do adventure! We had an absolutely incredible time with Teddy and Latisha, we saw 7grizzly bears, 3 humpback whales, a pod of orcas, a pod of dolphins and a load of sea otters ! The food provided was incredible and we could not fault the day. Both Teddy (our captain) and Latisha shared some incredible facts and stories! We would 10000% recommend doing this trip! It was well worth the money.

Fullcare, responsible, breathtaking Allover great trip saw many grizzlies, dolphins, humpback-whale, orcas, seaotters etc.

Lateesha was our guide, with Teddy as skipper and both of them were very friendly. Lateesha answered at all the questions with patience and passion. She did all she could for the best comfort of everybody, always a smile on the face.

Moreover, it appears that this company, run by the indegenous Kwakwak'awak, is very sensivite to respect the animals environment.

Best Day Ever Our outing was truly extraordinary. Day started early. 6:30. Brennen and Alan were our guides. The were both members of the Kwakwala tribe. We had spent the day before at Alert Bay so we understood a little about the First Nations people and history. The plan WAS to go to see bears early in the day and then go look for Marine life. But as we were picking up a couple at Alert Bay, Alan the boat driver and captain, said "No Way!" and we took off to look at Transient (mammal-eating) whales that he had unexpectedly seen. It is rare to find them. We spend some time watching them and felt awed by the experience. I think we were then headed towards the bears and saw about 20 Resident (fish-eating) whales. What was unique there was that there were so many and they seemed to be sleeping. They weren't moving much at all. The guides said they had never seen that before. We hung out there and also saw several humpback whales, porpoises, dolphins, jumping salmon, sea otters. It was amazing. And we started developing relationships with the guides. When asked questions, they talked about the lives and the history of their people. I had seen the cultural center at Alert Bay the day before, but this made it real. I felt like I knew what it was like to be Kwakwala. They both loved being part of that community and felt privileged to have grown up the way they did. I can't say enough about that unexpected aspect of the trip. We then headed toward the bears and we saw a mama bear and two cubs. I think we would have seen more, but a helicopter had been there earlier and scared them off. Interesting that low tide is the best time to see them from the shore because they were eating things like mussels that were exposed at low tide. This was on a mainland inlet and very secluded. We stopped for gas and it was like we were in some enchanted land. We pulled up on a dock and had lunch. The sun was out and it was glorious. We saw at least one bald eagle flying. By the way, they provided food and it was great. Fruit/yogurt/granola and then mid morning a muffin. Lunch was sandwiches/chips and a nice drink. Then afternoon cookie. At this point we felt like we had seen so much, but we went back to look for more. The afternoon high note was seeing a lot of sea lions. They were swimming and then climbed up on rocks and started making loud honking sounds. At the end of the day, I felt like I had made friends with the guides and seen so much wildlife. One of the best days ever. I think we may have been fortunate to have seen so much, but even if we hadn't, I know that the guides would have done everything they could to find life us us to see. They really cared about the quality of the experience. Best Day Ever!

Unreal trip!!!!! I cannot express how AMAZING this company is! My sister and I went on one tour with them that blew our minds so much we ended up going out again with them 48hrs later.

Everything about the trip is 10/10
- the boat is super comfy and perfect for viewing wildlife

- the guides are superb at spotting the animals and clearly care about them and the environment (unlike others I’ve been on where they will chase the animals to the point they actively swim away). They are great fun!

- we saw plenty of grizzlies, orcas, humpbacks, Dalls porpoises, white-sides dolphins and black bears….. anything and everything will be seen on these trips!!

Next time we are back in Port McNeil we’ll be searching out Sea Wolf again

First Nation amazingness!! Sherry and Gana were brilliant and made us all laugh from the get go. They were very knowledgable and you could tell how much they cared about the wildlife. The U'mista cultrual centre was so interesting and although we only had 20 mins in their due to us being distracted by a humpback fin slapping the water, it was one of the highlights and we wish we had more time there. We saw orcas, humpbacks, grizzly bears and black bears. The food provided was excellent and everyone was so attentive to our needs and I cannot fault them or the company. Shout out to Stephen who was also a brilliant guide on our second trip with sea wolf. Such beautiful people! We had the best day and we recommend this trip to anyone who visits, you won't be disappointed.

Heartfelt and personal tour with lots and lots of wildlife! We (mom, dad and two girls of 13 and 16) travelled to the north of Vancouver Island with one goal: to finally see grizzlies in the wild! And we did. The full day grizzly tour with Sea Wolf is great. There's plenty of time and as mentioned by other reviewers the guides are awesome. I absolutely recommend doing this tour, especially because these guys are First Nation, born and raised in the area. They have all kinds of personal and cultural things to tell. For us, a visit to the now abandoned Village Island was actually one of the highlights of the day, when actually all we wanted to see at the start of the tour were, exactly, grizzlies.

That’s a Wrap ~ 2025 Lodge Season

Today we set out on our final journey of our inaugural season; a day filled with reflection, gratitude, and quiet joy. Each trip is more than a tour; it is a chance to witness the living heartbeat of our homelands; whales breaking the surface, grizzlies at the river, eagles soaring above the rainforest. To share these moments is a gift, and to end the season feels both bittersweet and humbling.

This year carried a new depth through our partnership with Sointula Lodge; together we created an experience where guests could not only see our territory but feel it. Out on the water, awe and wonder; back at the lodge, comfort and warmth. The rooms offered rest, the meals became memories, and the stories shared around the table carried the spirit of connection. The feedback we received was heartfelt, with guests telling us they felt seen, welcomed, and cared for; to us, that is the greatest measure of success.

We will carry with us the moments of laughter, the tears of joy, the quiet silences in the presence of wildlife, and the deep pride of sharing who we are as Musg̱a̱makw Dzawada̱`enux̱w and Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw people.

That’s a Wrap ~ 2025 Lodge Season

Today we set out on our final journey of our inaugural season; a day filled with reflection, gratitude, and quiet joy. Each trip is more than a tour; it is a chance to witness the living heartbeat of our homelands; whales breaking the surface, grizzlies at the river, eagles soaring above the rainforest. To share these moments is a gift, and to end the season feels both bittersweet and humbling.
