Day 1: Arrival and Cultural Exploration

Upon arriving at the Sea Wolf Adventures office at Port McNeill, you’ll be welcomed by our friendly team. We’ll assist with your check-in and provide a brief orientation about your itinerary and what to expect during your stay at Sea Wolf Lodge.

Guests will board the vessel and head to Alert Bay for an afternoon of cultural exploration. During your visit, you’ll immerse yourself in Kwakwaka’wakw traditions, including a guided tour of the U’mista Cultural Centre, where you’ll learn about the potlatch system and view historic artifacts. You’ll also explore culturally modified trees, gaining insights into sustainable resource use practices that have shaped this land for generations.

Once you depart Alert Bay your journey will continue to the lodge. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to settle into your cabin and enjoy a delicious welcome dinner. This thoughtful start to your adventure will set the tone for the incredible days ahead.

Day 2: Grizzly & Black Bear Viewing Day Trip

On your first morning at Sea Wolf Adventures, you will depart for grizzly bear territory with breakfast served on the boat during transit. You’ll begin the journey into grizzly bear territory to observe bears feeding on salmon, where you’ll be guided by experienced Kwakwaka’wakw guides to gain insights into the behaviour and cultural significance of these magnificent creatures. This tour takes place in Indigenous Protected Areas, including key river systems that are vital habitats for grizzlies.

Travelling to our bear viewing areas is an important part of the day’s adventure, as we enjoy unparalleled access to our traditional territories and the communities where our owners and guides are honoured members. Pacific white-sided dolphins often dance alongside the bow of our boat, eagles soar overhead, and animals roam the shell-strewn beaches where ancient villages were once occupied by our people.

Sharing the cultural significance and histories behind the scenery, we make our way through waters favoured by migrating orcas and other awe-inspiring wildlife. Staying at a safe and respectful distance from these majestic creatures, we’ll then visit grizzly bears in their home, where we also give the bears space to roam as nature intended.

After this amazing immersive experience, guests will return to the lodge, where they can have a chance to relax, enjoy cultural storytelling, or partake in optional activities like a traditional bone game or dancing. See Lodge & Amenities for more information on the activities offered at the lodge.

Day 3: Jet-Boating and River Fishing Adventure

On the third day, you will discover the peaceful beauty of Wakeman Sound, a place rich with cultural history and natural wonder, as you explore its winding rivers aboard a jet boat. This area, known as the ancestral home of the Haxwa’mis people, is a sanctuary of lush greenery, ancient cedar trees, and thriving wildlife.

Your journey begins with a scenic boat ride to one of our magnificent rivers, where you’ll board a comfortable jet boat designed to navigate the serene waters of the region. As you travel upstream, take in the stunning surroundings—a quiet world of towering trees, crystal-clear waters, and the gentle rhythms of nature. This isn’t a race; it’s a chance to let the beauty of the rainforest unfold at its own pace.

There are two ways to experience the day 3:

Fishing Adventure

If you’re curious about the region’s traditions, try your hand at fishing for migrating salmon, a species that has sustained the Haxwa’mis people for centuries. With the guidance of our knowledgeable team, you’ll learn not only how to catch these fish but also the cultural importance they hold. Whether or not you’re a seasoned angler, this relaxed activity offers an opportunity to connect with the traditions of the land and enjoy some quiet time on the river.

River Safari

For those looking to simply take it all in, the river safari is a leisurely way to explore. Drift along the gentle curves of the river as your guide points out wildlife and shares stories of the Haxwa’mis people’s deep connection to the land. Spot bears fishing along the riverbanks, eagles soaring above, or salmon making their journey upstream. It’s a chance to immerse yourself in the calm and timeless beauty of Wakeman Sound.

Day 4: Wildlife Safari and Departure

Your last morning at Sea Wolf Lodge begins with a hearty breakfast and preparations for your wildlife safari, where you’ll embark on an unforgettable journey through
the Great Bear Rainforest. This immersive safari provides the opportunity to witness the
region’s stunning biodiversity, including eagles, coastal mammals, and other wildlife in their
natural habitats.

The safari concludes with a scenic boat journey directly to Port McNeill. During your morning adventure, our team will ensure all your luggage is securely transported to our Sea Wolf Adventures office.

You will arrive at the Sea Wolf Adventures office at approximately 4:00 PM, providing ample
daylight to continue your travels—whether catching a ferry, starting a road trip, or heading to your next destination. If you have specific travel plans or timing requirements, please let us know in advance. We’re here to assist in making your transition as smooth and stress-free as possible.

That’s a Wrap ~ 2025 Lodge Season

Today we set out on our final journey of our inaugural season; a day filled with reflection, gratitude, and quiet joy. Each trip is more than a tour; it is a chance to witness the living heartbeat of our homelands; whales breaking the surface, grizzlies at the river, eagles soaring above the rainforest. To share these moments is a gift, and to end the season feels both bittersweet and humbling.

This year carried a new depth through our partnership with Sointula Lodge; together we created an experience where guests could not only see our territory but feel it. Out on the water, awe and wonder; back at the lodge, comfort and warmth. The rooms offered rest, the meals became memories, and the stories shared around the table carried the spirit of connection. The feedback we received was heartfelt, with guests telling us they felt seen, welcomed, and cared for; to us, that is the greatest measure of success.

We will carry with us the moments of laughter, the tears of joy, the quiet silences in the presence of wildlife, and the deep pride of sharing who we are as Musg̱a̱makw Dzawada̱'enux̱w and Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw people.

To our guests, our partners, and our crew; gilakas’la, thank you. You are now part of our story, and it is your support that allows us to continue walking with respect and responsibility for this land and these waters. This is Reconciliation in motion.
