Witness the raw beauty of the Kingcome Valley on this powerful cultural tour as your First Nation guides share the stories of their traditional territory and welcome you to the village of Kingcome, the most remote of the Kwakwakaʼwakw communities.
This tour is a joint venture between Sea Wolf Adventures and Kingcome Raven Adventures. Your day starts in Port McNeill on Vancouver Island where Sea Wolf Adventures will pick you up for the first leg of your journey. You will travel by boat with a local Indigenous guide across to Kingcome Inlet and the shores of the mainland. Along the way you may have the opportunity to see dolphins, whales, sea lions and other marine life.
When you reach the mouth of the Kingcome River you will be met by Kingcome Raven Adventures and their jet boat. This specialized boat is fast and fun and allows you to safely explore the estuaries and shallow waters of the Kingcome Valley as you travel upriver. This is a very remote area with minimal human impact. It is home to bears, wolves and other wildlife which you may be fortunate to see if they are foraging along the river during your upriver journey.
These low volume tours take a maximum of six guests and are guided by a member of the local First Nation. They will share the history of their people and stories from their culture. You will stop at their village which is now the most remote Kwakwakaʼwakw community. There you will witness first-hand that the Musg̱a̱makw Dzawada̱’enux̱w First Nation continues to live in the territory where their ancestors have lived for tens of thousands of years.
After your jet boat tour is complete you will be met again by your Sea Wolf Adventures guide for the return trip to Port McNeill. This gives you another chance to view humpback whales, orcas, dolphins, seals and sea lions as you end your day on the water.
This is an excellent tour for anyone with an interest in authentic First Nations cultural sharing who wants to experience a truly remote and pristine natural ecosystem. The low number of participants on the trip gives you intimate access to your guide and the nimble nature of the jet boat allows you to easily take advantage of wildlife viewing opportunities.
